God's Unconditional Love

Thankfully, we have a Father who loves us unconditionally.

This is a beautiful truth! No matter what we do or how we act, our Father loves us deeply and completely. His love is not based on our performance, but on his love for us. It is unending and ever-present. This is something we can count on, no matter what life throws our way.

WHAT IS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE?

Unconditional love is love without any conditions attached. It is not based on what the other person does or doesn't do, how they act or don't act. It is simply a love that is given freely and unconditionally.
So often in our human relationships, we find ourselves withholding love until the other person meets our expectations or does something to deserve our love. But with God, it is different. He loves us even when we are at our worst. He loves us even when we sin and make mistakes. His love is never ending and always present.

WHY IS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE IMPORTANT?

Unconditional love is important because it is the only kind of love that can truly change someone. When we know that we are loved no matter what, it gives us the freedom to be our true selves. It also gives us the strength to change and grow into the people God created us to be.
Think about it this way - if someone only loved you when you were polite and kind, would you ever bother being anything but polite and kind? Probably not. But if someone loves you even when you're rude and angry, it gives you the freedom to be honest about how you're feeling without fear of losing their love. That's the power of unconditional love.

HOW CAN WE EXPERIENCE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE?

The good news is that we don't have to wait for someone else to show us unconditional love. We can experience it right now by turning to God. He has been waiting for us with open arms since the beginning of time, ready to pour out His unconditional love on us the moment we turn to Him.
If you're feeling unloved or unworthy of love, take a moment to pray and ask God to show you His unconditional love. Then open your heart and mind and look for ways He might be trying to show you that He loves you just as you are - imperfections and all!

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT UNCONDITIONAL LOVE?

The Bible [/features/bible-reader] speaks a great deal about unconditional love. In 1 John 4:16, it says, "God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them." This is a beautiful truth - that we can live in the presence of God simply by living in love ourselves. And what is love but an unconditional commitment to the good of the other person?
